The Short-Term Supports (STS) service is provided to the individual upon placement into a Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) setting. Employment settings include but are not limited to:
- Work Experience
- On-the-Job Training (OJT)
- Job Placement
This service is time-limited, proactive, and individualized to match the person’s employment-related needs. The service focuses on assisting the individual in learning the job duties, adjust to the demands of the work environment, and maintain competitive integrated employment through the development of natural supports within the job setting.
The Short-Term Supports (STS) is completed within 90 days unless additional supports are identified to ensure stabilization within the job setting.
Examples of common supports needed are:
- Proactive contact with the individual and their supervisor, trainer, or employer to identify and resolve issues to ensure success
- On-going assessment of the individual’s need for auxiliary services or goods such as reasonable accommodation, uniform, or equipment
- Regular contact with funding agencies to provide feedback on identified issues, challenges, progress, or the need for additional supports and services
- Additional (on or off the job) activities needed to stabilize the job setting, such as developing appropriate work behaviors, providing travel or job destination training, other training on the job setting tasks
- Consulting with the job-setting supervisor to discuss strategies and accommodations (if needed)
A monthly report is generated detailing progress and barriers to ISP goals and objectives, strengths, weaknesses, areas for improvement, and any consultative meetings (with the individual, the employer, trainer, supervisor, or employee).
